Joselito Geraldo de Sousa, known as Lito Sousa, a pilot, aeronautical mechanic, and creator of the popular Brazilian channel 'Aviões e Músicas', has been diagnosed with the rare and progressive Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD).
At 59 years old, Lito Sousa received the experimental substance ALN-6457, authorized for compassionate use by Anvisa. The medication, which has not yet been tested in humans, arrived from Switzerland and is being administered while he remains hospitalized in the ICU of the Albert Einstein Israeli Hospital in São Paulo.
According to his wife, Mila Seidl, Lito is stable with no adverse reactions. The evaluation of the substance's effectiveness is expected to take several weeks. The family publicly announced the illness in August 2026, sparking a mobilization for access to experimental treatments.
