The residence and studio of artist Lourdes Castro in Caniço, where she lived and worked for over three decades, has been put on the market for €4.1 million. The property, which includes the studio and garden, was considered by the artist to be an integral part of her work.
Lourdes Castro and Manuel Zimbro returned to Madeira in 1983, moving into this house built in 1988 overlooking the sea and the Desertas Islands. The artist's intention for her home to house a public foundation after her death was a central wish, but the process did not legally advance, with the property remaining in her nephew's possession.
