During the executive meeting on July 2nd, independent councilor Luís Filipe Santos questioned the Funchal Municipal Chamber (CMF) regarding protection measures for the population facing the current extreme heatwave.
Santos inquired whether the municipality has identified air-conditioned spaces to shelter vulnerable citizens, such as the elderly, homeless, and chronically ill, and if there is effective coordination with Regional Civil Protection, health authorities, and social institutions through a specific contingency plan.
Furthermore, the councilor requested clarification on fire prevention, urging the CMF to verify the operational status of all fire hydrants in the municipality, stating that "prevention is the best way to protect the population."
