Councilor Luís Filipe Santos has returned to Chega, once again representing the party in the Funchal Municipal Assembly. Santos had left the party seven months ago, citing a lack of "political, institutional, and personal conditions" to exercise his mandate.
The president of Chega in Madeira, Hugo Nunes, expressed confidence in the return of Jorge Afonso Freitas, another councilor who became independent. Nunes stated that the disagreements leading to both their departures were with the previous regional leadership and are now overcome, assuring autonomy for the elected officials.
Luís Filipe Santos explained his return by the change in conditions that prompted his departure, mentioning attempts at "political conditioning" and the imposition of an advisor without his consent.
