PSD councilors in Machico have called for urgent intervention in the Desembarcadouro area to improve vehicular circulation, regulate parking, and enhance pedestrian conditions. The proposal, which included a comprehensive study on circulation and mobility for the zone, was rejected by the municipal executive at the last council meeting, according to the party.
The PSD argues that the area, experiencing an increase in residents and traffic, faces significant congestion, particularly during peak hours. Proposed solutions included the implementation of one-way streets, parking reorganization, improvements to sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, and the study of an alternative road.
The proposal also encompassed a public consultation session with residents and local institutions. The PSD emphasized the need for coordination with utility networks like sanitation, drainage, electricity, and telecommunications for any future interventions.
