The Mayor of Ribeira Brava, Jorge Santos, visited the Portuguese Ladies' Benevolent Society in Caracas, delivering a donation of 2,250 euros. This sum was raised during the Luso-Venezuelan Festival, an annual event in Ribeira Brava, with this year's edition focusing on solidarity.
Jorge Santos, who was born in Venezuela and moved to Madeira as a child, stated that his visit aimed to understand the reality of the Madeiran-Venezuelan community and their challenges. "I didn't just come to deliver the money... I came to learn, to listen, and to see with my own eyes," the mayor said.
The Mayor intends to be an active voice in defending the community, highlighting the historical contribution of emigration to Madeira's development. The President of the Benevolent Society, Lucecita Fernandes, thanked them for their support, emphasizing the importance of the visit and the institution's work with the Venezuelan Red Cross to assist the Madeiran community.
