Madeira's Regional Government President, Miguel Albuquerque, will meet with Prime Minister Luís Montenegro in Lisbon next Tuesday to try and resolve several outstanding issues between the Region and the Republic's Government.
Topics on the agenda include the Region's financing, the new regime for the Madeira International Business Centre, and compensation for the additional costs of insularity. Albuquerque stated that the new regime for the International Business Centre is "practically negotiated," requiring only legislative approval and notification to the European Commission.
Financing through the State Budget, aimed at compensating for insularity costs in mobility and accessibility, is another key point. The Region is seeking between 78 and 79 million euros, plus other health-related support. Albuquerque criticized the current Regional Finance Law model for not accounting for Madeira's structural constraints.
Other dossiers to be addressed involve the construction of the new PSP police station in Porto Santo and the International Aircraft Registry within the Madeira International Business Centre, which faces national bureaucratic hurdles.
