In Madeira, the vehicle market saw a growth trend in used car acquisitions during the first half of 2026. Regional registries recorded the transfer of 8,277 used vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%.

Conversely, the purchase of new vehicles by island residents experienced a significant drop of 9.1% in the same period. 2,752 new vehicles were registered, 275 fewer than the previous year, indicating a shift in consumer preferences.

Data from the Regional Statistics Directorate of Madeira (DREM) also reveals a 7.1% increase in bus passengers, totaling 13.8 million. However, cable car usage saw a sharp decline, with a 34.2% drop in ticket sales, partly attributed to maintenance work.
