Madeira is celebrating World Tourism Day this Sunday, September 27th, with a packed schedule of regional events, reflecting the sector's economic importance to the island.
Celebrations include free admission to the Funchal Natural History Museum and the Whale Museum, which will also feature a musical performance and activities to connect the public with the whaling heritage. A free Poncha and Bolo do Caco workshop is being held at the Madeira Tourism Office in Lisbon.
Other highlights of the day include the 'Forte à Prova' event in Machico, focusing on regional products, a visit from the President of the Azores Regional Government as part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of autonomy, and the presentation of a second firefighting helicopter.
