Madeira Elected Best Island Destination in Europe at World Travel Awards

The Destination Madeira won the award for Best Island Destination in Europe at the European World Travel Awards gala, which took place in Kotor, Montenegro, on October 17. This marks the 12th time the island has received this accolade since 2013, reaffirming the international recognition of its unique characteristics and tourist offerings.

Competing for this award were other European island destinations, including the Azores, the Canary Islands, Crete, Cyprus, and Malta. Regional Secretary for Tourism, Eduardo Jesus, highlighted that the renewal of this award "demonstrates Madeira's ability to maintain a prominent position in the European tourism landscape," attributing the success to its nature, cultural identity, heritage, and year-round diverse experiences.

The Madeira Promotion Association (AP-Madeira) was also nominated for Best European Tourist Board, an award it won in 2024 and 2025, but did not secure this year. Eduardo Jesus considered the nomination a "particularly important recognition of the Association's capacity to assert the destination in international markets" and an incentive to continue investing in the qualification of its offerings and sustainability.
