The island of Madeira will host the Regional Final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, with a special broadcast by TVI live from Funchal's seafront promenade. The event, promoted by the company EIPWU, receives €57,000 in support from the Regional Secretariat for the Economy, Invest Madeira, and APRAM.
The program, hosted by Maria Cerqueira Gomes, will feature entertainment, musical performances, and reports on the 21 Madeiran candidates, aiming to showcase the region's historical, cultural, and landscape heritage nationwide. Regional Secretary for the Economy, José Manuel Rodrigues, highlighted the initiative as an opportunity to promote Madeira and reaffirm its media presence, valuing its authenticity and capacity for sustainable development.
The candidates, divided into seven categories including castles, major works, history, religion, and heritage from the 20th and 21st centuries, are competing to advance to the national semi-final. Categories feature sites like S. Tiago Fortress, Cristiano Ronaldo Airport, the Jesuit College, Funchal Cathedral, the Farmers' Market, Casa das Mudas, and Monte Palace Garden.
