Madeira recorded a cooler year in 2025 compared to 2024, although average temperatures remained above the climatological norm across the region. Simultaneously, it was significantly wetter, with all meteorological stations registering precipitation values higher than the previous year and above reference averages.
The data, released by the Regional Statistics Directorate of Madeira (DREM) based on information from IPMA, indicates that despite a decrease in average annual temperatures, observed values remained above the 1991-2020 climatological norm. Chão do Areeiro showed the largest positive temperature deviation (+0.9 degrees Celsius), while Lugar de Baixo was the warmest station (20.9 degrees) and Pico do Areeiro the coldest (10.6 degrees).
Regarding precipitation, 2025 stood out as a particularly wet year. All stations recorded higher annual totals than in 2024, with Chão do Areeiro accumulating an additional 952.1 millimeters of rain. Chão do Areeiro again led with a total of 2,825.7 millimeters, followed by Pico do Areeiro (2,503.6 mm). March and December were the wettest months, while Funchal/Lido was the driest station (348.5 mm).
