In May 2026, the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded 238 deaths, a 5.6% decrease compared to the same month the previous year. During the same period, 140 children were born, a 2.2% increase compared to May 2025.
Despite the year-on-year reduction, the number of deaths in May 2026 was 12.5% higher than the average recorded for the same month between 2016 and 2019. The natural balance, though still negative at -98 people, showed an improvement compared to May 2025 (-115).
Marriages continue to show negative numbers, with 107 weddings celebrated in May 2026, six fewer than the previous year.
