The project "Magic Flute – Madeira", by Carlos Pereira da Costa, has received €55,000 from Portugal's Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes).
It was the sole project from Madeira selected in the Creation in Music and Opera competition under the 2025 Project Support Programme. Of the 77 projects funded across Portugal, only five were opera projects, with the other 72 being music projects.
Funded projects, running until February 2028, may include creation and public presentation of works, artistic residencies, performances, touring, training, and research. This funding decision comes amidst broader concerns about arts funding, with several eligible projects left unsupported due to budget limitations.
