The PSD-Madeira Parliamentary Group met with council members representing Madeiran communities abroad to collect the diaspora's main concerns.
The aim is to present these issues to the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, Emídio Sousa. Among the long-standing, unresolved problems, MP Carlos Fernandes highlighted the lack of direct air links with South Africa and Brazil, deficiencies in the consular network, banking difficulties, and obstacles in recognizing qualifications.
One specific request is the establishment of a Portuguese consulate in Miami, citing a Madeiran and Portuguese community of over 12,000 people in Florida. The PSD will compile the information and request a meeting with the Secretary of State to present these matters, reaffirming their commitment to Madeirans living abroad.
