The People's Monarchist Party (PPM) of Madeira has voiced concern over the widespread increase in fuel prices, suggesting it has benefited Portuguese oil companies since 2022.
The party claims the largest national oil firm reported profits exceeding 800 million euros in the first half of 2026. PPM-Madeira coordinator Paulo Brito highlighted that approximately 850,000 minimum wage workers contribute to these substantial corporate profits.
PPM-Madeira also accuses the Regional Government of lacking foresight in fuel price regulation, citing fiscal losses and alleged smuggling. The party questions when the state will alleviate the cost of living for workers.
