The Regional Command of Madeira of the Public Security Police (PSP) has expressed deep regret over the passing of Maria José Henriques Cardoso.
Cardoso was the first woman to serve with police authority in the PSP's Regional Command of Madeira. In 1973, after completing the female guards course, she began a career that marked the history of the PSP on the island, working in traffic control.
The PSP honored her as "the woman, the police officer, and the comrade who was part of our history," highlighting her pioneering role at a time when women's presence in security forces was just beginning.
The funeral took place on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the São Martinho Cemetery in Funchal.
