The president of the Ribeira Brava Municipal Council, Jorge Santos, handed over five thousand euros to the Venezuelan Food Bank. This sum was raised during the Luso-Venezuelan Festival, an initiative organized by the municipality in partnership with the company Diário de Notícias.
The financial support aims to strengthen the operations of an institution that directly assists 55 social organizations. Following the earthquakes on June 24th, the Venezuelan Food Bank has been recurrently supporting between 15,000 and 16,000 people, including approximately ten thousand individuals in shelters and temporary camps.
Marienela Fernandes, president of the Venezuelan Food Bank and of Portuguese descent, highlighted the donation's importance for covering transportation costs for food and essential goods. The institution, three years old and operating in 13 Venezuelan states, has expanded its response to include medicines, medical supplies, and other items, in addition to food surpluses, due to the emergency.
