The Madeira Regional Delegation of the Order of Biologists swore in its new regional bodies for the 2026–2029 term during a ceremony at the Funchal Natural History Museum. Hugo Olival assumes the presidency of the Regional Council, joined by Nádia Coelho and Sílvia Mesquita as vice-presidents.
The new team has set four strategic objectives: strengthening the institutional presence of Biology in the Region, bringing the Delegation closer to its members, promoting professional development, disseminating regional scientific challenges, and ensuring transparent governance.
Hugo Olival highlighted the role of Biology in addressing current challenges, such as the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, stating that the field is "at the center of solutions for the future."
