Funchal hosted the LGBTQIA+ Pride March, which started at Largo do Município and concluded at the Legislative Assembly of Madeira. The event, organized by Madeira Pride, aimed at the assertion, visibility, and defense of LGBTQIA+ rights.
Despite the heat, organizers were satisfied with the turnout of approximately fifty participants. Paulo Spínola, head of Madeira Pride, highlighted the march as a "demanding" moment to draw attention to persistent discrimination and the need for ongoing support for associations.
Spínola warned against hate speech and movements inciting violence against minorities, emphasizing that hard-won rights are not permanently secured. The initiative sought to raise visibility for existing discrimination and called for daily efforts to ensure no one is left behind. The need for increased support from businesses and public entities to bolster the human resources of associations was also stressed.
