Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labor, and Youth, Paula Margarido, participated in the closing session of the national conference "Age and Vulnerability: Where Should Law Go?" in Bragança. She presented the experience of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and highlighted the public policies developed by the Regional Government to promote the rights and protection of the elderly.
In her speech, Paula Margarido emphasized the importance of balancing the safeguarding of rights with respect for the autonomy, will, and dignity of vulnerable individuals, advocating for law and public policies to be person-centered.
The conference, held on September 25th and 26th, brought together magistrates, academics, and professionals to discuss challenges such as aging, dependency, and violence against the elderly. Madeira also presented an integrated response model for vulnerable elderly individuals, inspired by the Casa da Criança/Barnahus model, focusing on inter-agency coordination and multidisciplinary intervention.
Paula Margarido highlighted the Regional Government's work, including coordination between Health and Inclusion sectors, strengthening home support, and prevention projects. She emphasized the recent Statute of the Elderly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which promotes an integrated approach to aging, valuing remaining at home when possible and ensuring differentiated responses.
