In 2025, the Autonomous Region of Madeira had 2,802 active nurses, an increase of 72 professionals from the previous year. The nurse-to-population ratio reached 10.53 per thousand inhabitants, significantly above the national average of 7.69.

Preliminary data from the 'Health Statistics of RAM 2025', released by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), indicate that the municipalities of Santa Cruz, Machico, and Funchal have the highest concentration of these professionals.

Conversely, the ratios for dentists (0.95 per thousand inhabitants) and pharmacists (1.10 per thousand inhabitants) in Madeira remain below their respective national averages.
