The island of Madeira has been voted Europe's Leading Island Destination for the 12th time since 2013 at the 2026 World Travel Awards ceremony, held in Kotor, Montenegro.
The archipelago triumphed over other nominees including the Azores, the Canary Islands, Crete, Cyprus, and Malta. Madeira Promotion Association (AP-Madeira) was also nominated for Best European Tourism Entity but did not secure the award.
Eduardo Jesus, the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture, stated that the repeated win highlights Madeira's consistent ability to maintain a prominent position in European tourism and acknowledged the contributions of industry professionals.
