The Legislative Assembly of Madeira has warned of the risk of regional delegations of the Lusa agency being extinguished, due to the PS party's bill establishing a new corporate model and statutes.
In an opinion sent to the Assembly of the Republic, the Madeiran parliament argues that Lusa's future model must ensure balanced territorial coverage and the maintenance of these delegations, considering the impact on island populations' right to information. The main concern lies with the powers granted to the board of directors, which could create or abolish delegations without prior regional intervention.
The PS bill proposes a general council and an opinion council, with the Legislative Assembly of Madeira having a representative on the opinion council. However, the opinion highlights the lack of direct representation for the autonomous regions on the independent general council, the body with effective supervisory powers.
