Madeiran Companies to Receive Support for Adopting Artificial Intelligence

Businesses in Madeira and Porto Santo could benefit from a share of approximately 23 million euros in national funds designated to support the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Regional support measures are also being prepared, though the specific amount for the region has not yet been determined.

The initiative, presented through the Regional Agenda for Artificial Intelligence – Businesses (ARIA-Empresas), aims to accelerate the adoption of this technology by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises by 2030. The strategy includes identifying AI tools suitable for the Madeiran business landscape, alongside providing training, technical knowledge, and guidance on cybersecurity and data protection. Preparing businesses is deemed crucial for accessing these funds.

Pilot projects are already underway, such as using AI in a greengrocer to create a digital inventory from photographs, and in the restaurant sector for menu creation. The Regional Secretariat for Economy also highlights the need for companies to prepare for compliance with the European AI Regulation to avoid significant fines.
