Mais Santa Cruz Coalition Criticizes Municipality's 13.2 Million Euro Loan

The JPP executive in the Santa Cruz Municipal Chamber approved a bank loan of 13.2 million euros, to be repaid over 20 years, to finance various investments in the municipality.

The Mais Santa Cruz coalition (PSD-CDS) voted against the proposal, accusing the JPP of repeating the debt policy they once criticized the PSD for. Planned investments include the renovation of Reis Magos beach, the requalification of the Caniço taxi rank lake, and the renewal of the Santa Cruz market.

The opposition regrets that the funding was not directed towards housing, a sector they deem needy. The coalition emphasized their opposition is to the financial decision, not the investments themselves, warning that the loan will push municipal debt over 32 million euros, nearing the 37 million figure the JPP previously criticized.
