The Chega-Madeira party has accused the Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) of imposing the cancellation of days off for agents to ensure policing for the National Rally.
According to the party, the event may have initially received a negative assessment from the PSP itself. Chega's regional president, Hugo Nunes, described the decision as an example of "lack of planning" and "incompetence" by the regional commander's leadership, arguing that agents should not bear the consequences of planning failures.
Chega also warned that the cancellation of rest periods should not become a normal practice, especially given the existing staff shortages and workload faced by PSP professionals. MP Francisco Gomes added that this policy undermines the PSP's operational capacity and distances the institution from its mission of protecting the population, as agents become unavailable for other essential duties.
This accusation comes amid complaints about the working conditions of security forces in Madeira, which Chega attributes to poor management by the PSP Regional Command.
