In a statement, the councilors consider the publication to exceed the limits of political debate and argue that differences of opinion should be guided by "institutional respect, civility, and dignity" for public figures. The coalition maintains that offensive language or personal attacks are incompatible with democratic principles.
Mais Santa Cruz emphasizes that a Chief of Staff is subject to special duties of "civility, institutional respect, and defense of the municipality's prestige." The coalition challenges the President of the Santa Cruz Municipal Chamber to comment on the matter and provide explanations to the residents.
