The Chega party has submitted a draft resolution to the Legislative Assembly of Madeira proposing the creation of incentives to retain specialized professionals in the support of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The proposal also includes strengthening financial and psychological support for families.
Among the measures is the creation of a ‘Regional Technical Retention Supplement’ for non-profit social institutions working in neurodevelopment. The aim is to align the salaries of therapists and psychologists with the entry-level values for technical careers in the regional public administration, thereby combating difficulties in hiring and retaining these professionals, which lead to waiting lists and delays in early intervention.
The bill also foresees a Regional Support and Training Program for Families with Autism, including psychological support for caregivers, parental training, and increased social benefits for private therapy expenses. The creation of a training and specialization plan in autism, in conjunction with the University of Madeira and professional bodies, is also planned. The project awaits scheduling for debate and voting.
