MARE-Madeira has announced a partnership with Hotel Saccharum in Calheta, aiming to bring scientific research closer to the public.
The collaboration seeks to involve tourists, students, and the community in projects related to the ocean and local ecosystems. João Canning Clode, a researcher at MARE-Madeira, emphasized the importance of "stepping out of the research bubble" to disseminate the work and find practical applications for the knowledge generated, particularly given that much scientific activity is publicly funded.
As part of this partnership, MARE-Madeira will assist in analyzing data from the Eco-Shower project, implemented at the hotel to monitor and reduce water consumption. The project has already saved 30,000 liters of water since its inception, a result that will help evaluate and expand the initiative.
