Nurses from the Medicine 3 Service at Marmeleiros Hospital have submitted a request for resignation of responsibility to the Nurses' Order and SESARAM administration. They cite a lack of conditions to guarantee quality and safe nursing care.
The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party disclosed the complaint, viewing it as a sign of the difficulties within the Regional Health Service. According to JPP, this is the second such request made public in two weeks, following a similar one at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
The document, dated June 30, states that the service should have 58 nurses but only has 26, with six currently absent. The staff shortage leads to schedules deemed illegal, with professionals accumulating shifts without adequate rest. The situation worsened with the transfer of patients from Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, resulting in patients in corridors and nurses performing support tasks, such as bathing patients, in addition to their care duties.
