The Regional Secretary of Health and Civil Protection, Micaela Fonseca de Freitas, conducted a working visit to the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters detachment in the parish of Curral das Freiras. The purpose was to observe operational work and assess recent facility improvements.
Accompanied by regional and local officials, the secretary highlighted the significance of the intervention, supported by the municipality, in enhancing the working and operational conditions for the fire brigade. A visit was also made to the former primary school, where a rehabilitation project using community funds is planned to house the Local Civil Protection Unit, a Population Concentration and Support Zone (ZCAP), and new facilities for the firefighters.
Micaela Freitas praised the dedication and mission spirit of the on-site firefighting teams, emphasizing their high response capacity for public safety. The effectiveness of the Special Device for Combating Rural Fires (DECIR) was also noted, with an average response time of 16 minutes for the first unit to reach incidents this year.
