The Portuguese Navy, via the NRP Zaire, detected over two tons of dried skipjack tuna in the early hours of September 14th that were not listed in the records presented during an inspection operation.
Following the detection, the Funchal Local Maritime Police took charge of the incident, and the fishing vessel was taken to the Port of Caniçal for a more detailed inspection. At the port, the fish were weighed, totaling 2,011 kilograms of dried skipjack tuna.
The facts are under review by the competent authorities to determine the legal measures to be adopted. The NRP Zaire continues its maritime surveillance actions to ensure compliance with fishing legislation and the protection of marine resources in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
