A scam that occurred 34 years ago in Funchal, with particular impact in the Chão da Loba and Livramento areas, is being recalled.
The alleged scammer, who invariably wore a mini-skirt, approached victims door-to-door, claiming to be carrying an international package held at customs.
She demanded around 25,000 escudos to release the package, even using children to gather information about residents and their relatives abroad, using this information to execute her "confidence trick".
