A man, whose age and nationality could not be determined, was the subject of a rescue operation this afternoon after suffering a medical emergency aboard the Britannia cruise ship, located north of Madeira Island.
According to confirmation given to DIÁRIO by the Port Captain of Funchal, Bruno Teles, the passenger may have suffered a stroke, although the situation is still subject to confirmation. The Portuguese Air Force's EH-101 Merlin helicopter was activated for medical evacuation.
After the rescue, the aircraft is expected to land at Madeira International Airport, where the passenger will be transported to a hospital.
