A Swiss tourist, approximately 60 years old, was found submerged in the waters of the Doca do Cavacas bathing complex in Funchal this afternoon. The alert was raised at 4 PM.
Lifeguards on duty at the natural pools removed the man from the water and began basic life support maneuvers as he was in cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite resuscitation attempts, death was confirmed at the scene by an EMIR doctor.
Several emergency services were mobilized, including EMIR, the Portuguese Red Cross, the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, and the Maritime Police. The Funchal Maritime Police are investigating the incident, and the body will be taken to the Madeira Forensic Medical Office. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
