Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labour, and Youth, Paula Margarido, participated in the 460th-anniversary celebrations of the parish of Santo António.
In her speech, she highlighted the parish's transformation from a rural territory into one of Madeira's largest, with approximately 28,000 inhabitants. Margarido underscored the partnership between the Regional Government and the parish, resulting in concrete investments in social services, housing, mobility, and accessibility.
In the social sector, two new projects supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan were mentioned, with a total investment exceeding 5 million euros: the Casa Lar dos Afetos and Lar Santo António, which will create residential places and day centres. Paula Margarido stressed that "the most important thing is not the millions. It's the people," emphasizing the significance of these investments for dignified aging and family support.
Improvements in housing, with new units completed and under construction, as well as enhancements in mobility and accessibility, including the reformulation of the Santo António Interchange costing around 7.65 million euros, were also noted.
