PS councilor Rui Caetano in the Funchal Municipal Chamber had a proposal approved to create a plan that identifies and resolves situations of housing without connection to the public sanitation network, especially in the higher areas of the municipality.
Caetano cited examples such as Santa Quitéria and Pico do Cardo in São Roque, deeming the situation "completely unacceptable" for a city with a significant municipal budget. The proposal aims to plan interventions, identify problems, and support residents in the connection process.
The socialist councilor linked the need to resolve these issues with preventing wastewater discharge into watercourses and bathing areas, arguing that the Municipal Chamber should intervene in these zones. "It makes no sense in a modern, tourist city, all pretty, but not looking up here," he stated.
