A PCP delegation met with the Republic's representative in Madeira to discuss public investment projects, focusing on the "gigantic financial overrun" and "unacceptable delays" in the New Hospital construction.
Regional PCP coordinator Edgar Silva attributed responsibility for the project's management to the Regional Government, criticizing the "slicing of the project" which led to estimated costs tripling the initial forecast. The party demands to know who will cover the additional expenses and what the new funding sources will be.
Furthermore, the PCP questions the existence of new cost-benefit and environmental impact studies, as well as the central government's willingness to cover the overruns. The party also urges the Regional Government to provide information on the completion deadlines, initially promised for 2024 and now uncertain regarding 2031.
