The New Right Party (PND) has publicly denounced that Marmeleiros Hospital may be placing beds in its corridors to accommodate patients with complex discharge needs, citing a lack of response capacity from the hospital unit.
The party believes that, if confirmed, this situation demonstrates the "incapacity of the Regional Government and the Regional Secretary for Health" to resolve issues within the Regional Health Service. The PND argues that it is unacceptable for elderly individuals to remain in corridors without adequate conditions for safety, privacy, and dignity.
PND regional coordinator Paulo Azevedo warned that the corridors are not equipped with essential infrastructure such as power outlets for medical equipment or oxygen ramps, exposing patients to a higher risk of contagion and constant movement. The party suggests converting disused public buildings, like the Tanque School and Santa Rita School, into dignified reception facilities for these elderly individuals.
