Rui Marques, the Mayor of Ponta do Sol, has characterized the initial ten months of his governance as a "year zero," primarily dedicated to reorganizing and restructuring municipal services.
During the solemn session marking the 525th anniversary of the municipality, Marques presented a comprehensive list of demands to Regional Secretary Pedro Rodrigues. Key priorities include the construction of a new primary school, the completion of the Estrada dos Anjos project, solutions for the old marina and the Lugar de Baixo lagoon, and improvements to the Canhas straight and road links between Ribeira Brava and Calheta.
Marques stated his intention to collaborate with the Regional Government but stressed the importance of advocating for Ponta do Sol's needs. He highlighted the necessity of investments to enhance internal mobility and foster development opportunities for the municipality, calling for structural solutions to address traffic congestion on the south coast.
