The Porto Moniz Care Home is set to potentially increase its capacity by 20 beds, raising the total from the current 40 to 60 residents.
Regional Government President Miguel Albuquerque announced plans to purchase adjacent land for the construction of a new building, which will be connected to the existing structure. Albuquerque stated that the facility has "all the capabilities" and available space in its kitchens, laundries, and technical services to accommodate more residents.
The expansion aims to utilize existing resources, such as the industrial kitchen and laundry, to serve a larger number of beds and provide care for the elderly "with all conditions met," avoiding what he described as a "functional waste" of resources.
