Porto Santo will be the site of two new infrastructures linked to the Portuguese space program. A ground station will enable direct communication with satellites from the "Atlantic Constellation," an advanced Earth observation system developed in a Portuguese-Spanish partnership.
The second infrastructure will be an optical sensor for monitoring and surveillance of objects in outer space, essential for ensuring the safety of satellite operations. The ground station is expected to be installed at Sítio das Pedras Vermelhas, while the sensor will be located at Cabeço de Bárbara Gomes, an area with less light pollution.
