At the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Social Democrat deputy Joana Silva accused the PS and successive socialist governments in the Republic of "resistance, systematic denials, and lack of commitment" regarding the provision of aerial resources for firefighting in the Region.
Silva stated that it was the PSD Government that initiated demands for these resources to come to Madeira, emphasizing that the responsibility lies with the Portuguese State.
The Regional Civil Protection Service of Madeira only acquired a firefighting helicopter eight years ago, despite the possibility being discussed for over three decades. Initially, firefighters supported the idea, but governmental entities expressed doubts about its effectiveness due to the region's topography and winds.
