The Socialist Party of Madeira (PS-M) has challenged the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, to accept the party's proposal for revising the silvopastoral regime. This comes after Albuquerque recently advocated for regulated grazing as a means of fire prevention.
The socialists view Albuquerque's statements as a shift in position and an acknowledgement of the Regional Government's perceived incompetence in managing the island's forest areas. The PS points out that they have long proposed this traditional activity for land management and fire prevention, but their initiatives were previously rejected by the PSD/CDS majority in the Legislative Assembly.
MP Sílvia Silva criticized the government's "false promises" and "propaganda," arguing that the current forest management model is unworkable, leading to wasted public funds and a disconnect between the community and the mountains. The PS urges an end to mere rhetoric and the acceptance of their proposals for more effective and sustainable forest management.
