The PS-Madeira accuses the PSD of trying to change the intent of a proposal on independent living support for people with disabilities.

PS Criticizes PSD for Attempting to Alter Independent Living Proposal

The PS-Madeira has denounced, through a press release, the PSD's attempt to alter the socialist proposal recommending the implementation of the Independent Living Support Model (MAVI) for people with disabilities or incapacity in the Region.

According to the PS, the PSD abstained from the plenary vote on July 9, allowing the proposal's approval, but on Tuesday, in the Inclusion, Youth, and Labor Commission, presented an amendment that changes the initiative's intent from a recommendation for implementation to one for evaluation.

Socialist deputy Isabel Garcês considers this action a "disrespect for a democratic decision" and a "change of principle," transforming a proposal for decision into one for postponement, when people with disabilities have been waiting for this measure for nine years.

The PS argues that the PSD has had sufficient time since 2017 to prepare the regional adaptation of MAVI and criticizes the party for "giving hope one day and removing its substance the next," calling for concrete and immediate responses for the autonomy of people with disabilities.
