PS deputy Sílvia Sousa in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira criticized the announcement of an 11 million euro investment for the modernization of regional agriculture. Sousa accused the Regional Government of prioritizing propaganda over concrete results, questioning the effectiveness of European funding.
Sílvia Sousa recalled the previous PRODERAM 2020 community framework, which mobilized 284 million euros but did not prevent the sector's decline. Citing an evaluation report, the deputy highlighted the "very macro-minute" effects of the rejuvenation measure, questioning the capacity of the current regional secretary, Nuno Maciel, to reverse the situation.
The socialist deputy also raised questions about the fate of "4D agriculture," the results of support for young farmers and organic production, and measures to prevent further abandonment. Sousa believes the announced measures are not new and that the Executive lacks a clear strategy for regional agriculture.
