The Socialist Party of Madeira (PS-Madeira) advocates for the responsibility of issuing grazing licenses in areas outside the forest perimeter, including zones near populated areas, to be transferred from the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) to Livestock services.
The proposal was presented by PS-Madeira president Célia Pessegueiro during a visit to the Agricultural Fair in Santa, Porto Moniz. The measure aims to simplify the licensing process in peri-urban and agricultural areas, arguing that Livestock services are more technically suited to oversee this activity, allowing for more efficient management and encouraging livestock production.
The PS also reiterated the importance of livestock in clearing land and preventing fires, considering directed grazing a valuable tool for protecting Madeira's mountainous regions. Additionally, Célia Pessegueiro criticized delays in prize payments to participants of the previous agricultural fair, deeming a year-long wait for support unacceptable.
