The Casa do Povo do Caniçal requested tents from the Machico council, but the request was denied, forcing them to seek assistance from the Ribeira Brava Municipal Assembly for the equipment.
The PSD finds the situation hard to comprehend, especially given the event's significance to the local fishing community. The councilors accuse the municipal executive of failing to translate their talk of proximity to the people into action and of turning their backs on Caniçal's fishermen.
Social democrats are demanding explanations from the Machico Council, arguing that support for local institutions should not be subject to party politics. The lack of support, according to the PSD, shows a disregard for the parish's needs.
