The PSD Municipal Group in the Machico Municipal Assembly has denounced the degraded state of road signage and the municipal road network.
The complaint follows the socialist majority's rejection on June 24 of a Recommendation Vote by the PSD aimed at improving these infrastructures across all parishes.
According to the PSD, the proposal sought an intervention plan for sign replacement, road marking repainting, and maintenance reinforcement to enhance safety. The party claims rusted traffic signs, obscured STOP signs, faded road markings, and nearly invisible pedestrian crossings pose daily risks.
The PSD criticized the PS's rejection of the proposal, viewing it as a missed opportunity to improve road safety and public space quality, stating that after 13 years of socialist governance, promises of improvement are not reflected in observed reality.
